Review: Bucklay by Washburn BE15

Note: There are almost no reviews for this guitar model. This hopefully would be the first one.
Finally went electric a few weeks ago.
Bought a beginner’s pack, for convenience and price. Was worth PhP7,500.00 (roughly US$178.25), which is a pretty fair price.
*Bucklay BE15 electric guitar (colour: black)
*10 watt amplifier (Global GA10)
*Padded gig bag
*Guitar cable
*3 picks
*Electric tuner (Cherubim ST-711 Skull Tuner)
*Nylon strap
*2 allen rings
Not bad. Not bad.

*Made sometime between 2010-2011 somewhere in Asia (most probably China)
*Wood: absolutely no idea, especially the body and fretboard. I doubt it’s rosewood on the fretboard. Maybe maple or something similar. Post on the comments if you know.
*22 frets
*Fixed bridge (strings go through the body)
*Solid body
*Bolt-on neck
*2 humbucker pick ups
*Volume and Tone knobs for each pick up
*3 way pick up selector (bridge, both, and neck)
*Medium frets
*3+3 headstock, bent at a 14 degree angle (like most Washburn guitars)
The body is shaped like a cross between a Telecaster and Les Paul (more Tele actually, with shorter horns).
Now, I am quite curious if this guitar has a truss rod. It came with a couple of allen keys, a small one for the bridge, and a larger one that is usually used for truss rods. Do bolt-on necks even have truss rods? Again, post on the comments.

Now, this guitar actually sounds pretty good for its price. It’s not exactly the best electric guitar, but it’s good enough for people just beginning to go electric (like me).
When played dry, it sounds crisp and clear. When played with the overdrive on, it sounds fantastic.
I play blues (electric, hard, and punk variants), garage rock, and rockabilly, and the guitar fits these styles nicely.
I will get myself a better amplifier whenever possible.

So far, nothing’s broken. Everything still works. The shiny finish seems to last. The strings might need to be replaced, and that’s pretty much it.

Played live once using this guitar. It has not failed me. Will update if it does.

A pretty decent guitar for a low price. Recommended for beginners.

Little Red Riding Hood

Posted in fairy tales, Goth, Little Red Riding Hood, scary shit with tags , , , on November 14, 2011 by The Ghostwriter

My favourite version of Little Red Riding (one of the earlier versions):
Once upon a time, there was a girl with with a red hood, who was to bring bread and milk to her grandmother, who lived across the woods.
On her way, she was met by a wolf.
“Where are you going, all alone, little girl?”
“To my grandmother’s, to bring bread and milk”
And the wolf bid his farewells, and took a shortcut towards the grandmother’s cabin. He killed her, sliced her flesh and served it on a platter, and drained her blood into a wine bottle. He then wore her night gown and waited on her bed.
The girl knocked at the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me, grandmother. I’ve bought you bread and milk.”
“Come in! I also have something for you. On the table is a platter of meat and a bottle of wine. It is for you my dear.”
She went in, and ate and drank what was served. A cat passed by and screeched “YOU SLUT. How dare you devour the flesh and blood of your kin?!”
The wolf then told the girl “Take off your petticoat and throw it into the fire”
“For you shall not need it anymore”
And for every article of her clothing, the wolf said this, and the girl asked the same, and the wolf’s reply stayed constant.
When she was fully nude, the wolf told her to lay in bed with him, and she did.
“My grandma, what big claws you have.”
“The better to scratch myself, dear”
“My grandma, what big eyes you have.”
“The better to see you with, my dear.”
“My grandma, what big teeth you have”
“The better to eat you with, my dear.”
And he devoured her, and she was no more.

The End.

A Conspiracy Theory

Conspiracy theory:
Ch*rice, in order to gain higher record and download sales, and a break from her tour, needed some sympathy. What she does is, hire someone that hates her father, and get him killed.
She gets a break from her tour. She gets public sympathy. She gets more money.

Still, this is just a conspiracy theory.

Trouble with UltraSurf

I, like most people, like privacy. It’s nice, warm sometimes. I use a delightful little product called UltraSurf. It is a proxy program, designed to block your IP.

Now, here’s the problem. I can’t access porn sites (which, to some extent, I also like. Especially Fakku). Even when using dabr (a Twitter site), I get the message that UltraSurf has cut off my connection to that site. Preposterous! A proxy site that blocks off porn? Outrage, I say.

My profile picture on Twitter’s at least a few months old. I’ll be changing my profile picture in a few days. AND YOU GET TO VOTE!
In the next few days, I’ll be posting several Twitpics, and the one with the greatest combined number of faves and RTs will be my new profile picture. Watch out for updates on the Twitter feed.

A Trivial xkcd-related Post

This is the latest(as of today) post at Extended Mind.
Now, read the mouse over text. To paraphrase, it says “Go to Wikipedia. Click on any random page. Now, click the first link on the page not in italics or parenthesis. Repeat on next page. Keep on doing this, and you will eventually land on ‘Philosophy’.”

Trust me, this works. I tried “European rabbit”, took me 15 or so clicks to get to “Philosophy”.

Hi, may I ask a small favour from all of you wonderful readers? Now, it’s fine that you’re reading this, but if you have any reactions to anything on this blog, please do post a comment. Thanks.
